K-pop and Korean/EAS Studies

Hi, I’m a student and I notice that many people I engage with here are as well!! I just wanted to ask if any of you found k-pop through academic interests, or inversely, ventured into the academic world especially within Korean/East Asian studies from interests in K-pop!! For me, I was a bit drawn to Asian art as an Art History student, but never had a clear avenue considering I’m an American student and there is less access to the material here. I’m also a huge language nerd, so when I learned about Hangul and the Korean language I was fascinated and wanted to learn some. I thought listening to k-pop would help me learn a bit, (it didn’t actually help much lmao, but that’s what classes can make up for) and here I am now as a fan! Has anyone else had an experience like this? I would love to hear about people’s interests in learning and how k-pop has maybe helped you evolve into learning things you might not have learned about before!!! Learning becomes so exciting when you follow your interests!! Pls feel free to share yours, I would love to hear about it!!!

Mines kind of like that, but it’s more about how kpop helped me grow in other areas. Thanks to kpop, I’m now a passionate hip hop dancer, and I REALLY enjoy it!! I use kpop chores to practice, and it’s helped me so much with dance for theater as well! Also I love your story, that’s so fascinating!
